  1. Case study: Sandra and Keira

    Here Sandra* tells the story of how she and her daughter Keira*, 13, have dealt with bullying which happened both at primary school and at secondary school. At primary school, Keira was bullied by a long-time friend. The police got involved after a very scary incident where Keira had a heavy door being banged into her head by the bullies. The police got involved but this did not resolve the matter. Sandra felt that the primary school was very unhelpful and ineffective in their actions. This is what she said:

  2. Case Study- Jacob

    Jacob has a learning disability, and was bullied by another boy who had special needs too. Luckily, Jacob’s mum spotted the signs very early and alerted the school, who acted very quickly to stop the bullying.

    “My child Jacob was being picked on by another boy. Jacob has a learning disability. He was being picked on by a boy who also has special needs but he is higher functioning than Jacob. Jacob was upset saying he never wanted to go to school again. He was finding it difficult to go to sleep at night and was very difficult to get out of the home in the morning.

    My son was bullied at school because of his disability. The boy, who was bullying him, used to hit and threaten him in the playground. I and the school worked together to stop the bullying… 

    “My son has Bladder Exstrophy and Epispadias. This is a hidden disability. He was incontinent as a result of his medical condition when he started school and wore nappies. One day at school a boy in his class saw the top of his nappy when he bent down.   5. Case study: Sarah, Joseph and Ellie

    Here Sarah* tells the story of how she has experienced bullying from both sides of the coin – as the mum of Joseph*, 12, who, until he was diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), was involved in bullying while at primary school, and as the mum of Ellie*, nine, who has been bullied at school.

  6. Case Study: Rehema and Inaya

    Rehema talks about how her daughter Inaya was bullied when she moved to an English school Rehema and her daughter, Inaya moved to London from France in 2005 when she was 13 years old. To help her settle in, the school employed a French-speaking volunteer learning assistant.
