School Bus Bullying Survey
20th Dec 2012

In December 2006, 11 year old Ben Vodden took his own life after being bullied on the dedicated school bus.  His father, Paul, has been trying to find out about bullying on school buses but there is very little published information.  With this in mind he has joined with the Diana Awards to produce a questionnaire for those who have experienced bullying on the way to school on the bus.

The information will be used to find out how much bullying occurs on dedicated school buses and, if there is a lot of it, to use the information to lobby...

Bullying Poem by J Eardley
17th Oct 2012

Bully Rights and Consequences What makes you so special, To make someone feel low, With words or threats of violence, To make them want to go, To hurt themselves or run away, Hide from their pain, A torture that you put them through, Driving them insane Laughing as they squirm, Gloating from above, Because they are different, Or because of who they love, Because they believe in God, Come from India or are a Jew, You think you can keep at them, Twisting pain with your screw, But I'm here to let you know, To tell you without a doubt, That if you got to know them, You'd know your missing out, Everyone is interesting, And can add to your life, They can show amazing love, And help when you feel strife, And they will always be there, If your there for them to, Whatever struggle arises, They...

Surviving the bullies – part 4 by Emma Andrews – when I was aged 9
2nd Oct 2012

I was badly bullied throughout my school life because I walked differently to the other children.

The effects of bullying are life lasting which is why my series  of blogs will look at how I coped from aged 6- 15 and hope that my experiences offer an invaluable insight for parents and carers to observe and address the tell-tale signs of a victim of bullying.

Many things can lead to a child becoming a bully.

Angry adults may vent out their frustrations on a child; angry teacher adults perhaps in my case?

Apparently I was “very naughty” because I hated washing the back of my leg – the scar from my operation to lengthen my tendon and help me...
Bullies claimed the life of my 16 year old sister
24th Aug 2012

On Sunday 19th August, Richard Shaw and a group of friends trekked 14 miles across the Yorkshire Dales in aid of Bullying UK, part of Family Lives. So far Richard has raised an incredible £1300, in memory of his sister Chantelle who tragically took her own life this year, aged just 16.

Chantelle was a victim of bullying, and suffered from depression. By supporting us, Richard wants to help make sure others do not have to suffer the same pain as distress that Chantelle did.

“I want to stop children from feeling like they are alone in that situation. I want to try and get...

Many things can lead to a child becoming a bully.

In the tough economic climate, sadly many people are losing their jobs and parents’ often have to share the bad news with their young children which they will often do around the dinner table. Although the news about Dad’s job may be sugar- coated to cause the...

When you come from a single parent family as I did, children can be very unkind. For my brother, sister and I it was not easy to hide the fact that our parents had split; if the play ground whispers were a rumour, and children judged you on your break time snack, then sadly they were...

In times of economic restraints for example, teenagers might witness their parents arguing over money problems, jobs under threat etc and eavesdrop on their parents rows, safely huddled up, hiding on the stairs.
The teenager may have problems of their...
My Bullying Posters by Annalise
23rd May 2012

My main inspiration for creating these posters was past experience, I grew up having to deal with the issue of bullying and by standing tall and smiling over the situation has made me the strong person I am today. I hate to see people going through bullying, feeling different and like the ‘odd one out’, this is why for my A-Level Graphics exam I chose to illustrate the issue of feeling left out in different ways.

My Bullying Story by Rachael
15th May 2012

Bullying in and out of schools is an issue close to my heart. I hated my teenage years in particular, I am 28 years old now and I still have issues with my childhood.

Primary school wasn’t so bad. I was called carrot head a few times by older kids due to the fact I had ginger hair and chased around the school a few times, but generally it was ok. Primary school felt quite safe for me. I went to a small primary school so it felt more homely than a larger one would. I did have plenty of friends and never had any major problems.

I did lack confidence though, I remember playing in the netball team and on a few occasions another School came to play against us. I was terrified, and I mean literally I was so...

Teacher advises children at school to act less gay to prevent being bullied
1st Nov 2011

A news report today has claimed that children at some schools in Essex have been allegedly told by teachers to act less gay to prevent being bullied.  Apparently, they had been warned about their appearance and their sexuality by teachers who may have had little training on how to deal with bullies.

Young people claimed that teachers told them to wear their hair differently or because the young person may look or behave different, they are making themselves a target.

These allegations come from a report by Essex County Council on the way to deal with bullying in Essex schools.  The Young Essex Assembly held a conference for young people across Essex and asked them to share their views on issues such as bullying and the way it...
